Life Without My Computer

image

Oh daemon water-bottle!
loosely twisted bane of a cap
and I, rushed for coffee
tip the full liquid to my waiting computer
fervent prayers and a hair dryer on low
appear to be answers

But not so!
a year later and a half
first there is a ghost
a ghost in the trackpad
a hacker? On team viewer?
a thousand changed passwords?
a $90 fix and one day without

Become 5 days and $800!
there goes the rent
the massive self-printing
productivity is strangled
shaking, chills, irritability
and sleeplessness tell the tale
this most feared withdrawal

Supplements, supplicant!
journals are for poems
novels are for keyboards
twisted and cramping from lack of use
hands take to the pen
play children’s tapping index finger games
on a mini ipad
thankful for this sweet respite
ungratefully written
anger constrained and waiting
in poetic swift decompression

But oh, what timing!
for the book made its submission
near perfect completion
and life without my computer
is merely a pause
on the avalanche
of expression
dreams lingering
unpossessed
on the holo deck
suspended but not lynched
